Lack of officials effects Local Masters Athletics Event

As we try to strive for Masters Athletics to be recognised, are we causing more issues within the local Athletics world.  With increasing events covering Masters and the wider public we forget the need for Officials, those volunteers who turn out constantly so that we may actually compete!

SOUTH OF ENGLAND MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS – SUNDAY 24TH JUNE

Millennium Arena, Battersea Park London SW11 4NJ. First Events 10.00

The inaugural fixture for these Championships is on Sunday 24th June, which was proposed to make up for the lack of Masters competitions provided by SEAA.

This year all Masters Track and Field Championships have been plagued by a shortage of officials. This is due to a reducing number of officials and an expanding fixture list that makes greater demands on them.

There is a skeletal numbers of Officials to hopefully cover the Track events, but the Field events – Jumps and Throws – have serious problems.

If the Field events are to happen, in any meaningful way, then it will only be with the help of BMAF members, either those competing on the day, in both Track and Field events, spectators there to watch colleagues competing or members wishing to offer their services.

Hot and cold drinks, snacks and fruit provided throughout the day and a sandwich lunch, and £0.30 per mile motor expenses/ public transport costs and parking.

So if you want to compete, or help others compete, then you need to offer your services to assist the few Field and Track Officials committed to this event, before, between and after your competition(s), those of your friends and colleagues to ensure we can continue to hold Masters Regional Championships.

Please contact Maurice Doogan if you can assist, and if competing, what events you have entered, so that you can be slotted into the various teams we need to assemble for each event.
