Below are some of the latest and best running shoes to hit the market in early 2019, a mixture of shoes for all runners but staying away from the main players such as adidas, nike and asics. these are the shoes that a little different and through some real shade on those big players by being truly great shoes with some really good designs.
So much so that I have already purchased a few of these 🙂
And of course we cant leave all the good looking shoes to the younger athletes, as masters we can still look good…ish
New Balance Fuel Cell Rebel, $130
This is possibly my favourite of the bunch an entirely new shoe and frankly beautiful, New Balance have designed the FC Rebel for fast, aggressive-cadence running. Starting with a new TPU-based midsole platform with a slightly strange looking lateral flare for smooth heel-toe transitions.
The key to all this is the engineered mesh upper, which is a design pattern New Balance calls Trace Fiber that provides additional support and improves foot-wrapping snugness. With a 6mm heel-toe offset and will weigh in under 8.5 ounces (men’s size 9).
Altra Vanish XC, $79 a funky looking cross country shoe for sure!
A no frills featherweight, minimal design shoe with an ultra grippy outsole, the Vanish XC is cross-country shoe with some serious stylish appeal. It weighs just 4.9 ounces (men’s size 9).
That grippy rubber outsole has a cutout design, which allows it to offer serious traction without the usual added weight. The upper is an open mesh airy, two-layers that makes the shoe feel pretty much like a feather while running. While this shoe is a great cross country trainer/racer. I’m not sure why but i love the look of this shoe, and I am really tempted to import it just to be different from the crowd.
The XR inst available within the UK as yet, but the racing flat from Altra the Vanish R is…
Salomon Predict RA, $160
After studying injury rates among athletes, Salomon decided to design a smooth-riding shoe that they say lets the foot move as naturally as possible. A foot-wrapping upper provides a good solid locked-down fit. That design works with the natural movements of the foot which is said to significantly reduce stress on the hips and knees, giving athletes the smoothest ride possible.
Available in the UK
361 Strata 3, $155
The shoe design that apparently helped 361 break the U.S. market, the Stata has been revamped and gotten lighter (10.9 ounces, men’s size 9) and sleeker in its now 3rd edition, which itself is strange to considert this shoe being out long enough for several iterations. It’s a mid- to high-mileage trainer and as things stand currently this brand hasnt really hit the emotions of runners in the UK, will this change peoples perceptions, maybe?
The shoe enhances stability with an external-TPU heel counter which does work faily well, while the responsiveness of the shoe is boosted by their own version of a Quikfoam midsole compound. It’s all wrapped with a two-layer jacquard mesh for maximum ventilation and comfort.
On Running Cloudstratus, $170
I think i may have been one of the fist people in the UK to wear this brand way before it was cool, and I simply love them! but never really get to wear them anymore, these bad boys may change that! This growing Swiss brand continues to make headway in the U.S. market and is a firm favourite in the UK and EU. The Cloudstratus is its first maximally cushioned training shoe made possible by a double layer of the brand’s Cloud cushioning cells in the rear of the foot which really do give a great ride. The lower layer of Clouds are set to absorb the initial ground impact, and the second layer is set to return that energy back to the runner
Unlike most of the older shoes from On Running, these Cloudstratus have a filled-in outsole (meaning fewer airy gaps) for more positive and reactive ground contact and stability.
Skechers GoRun 7 Hyper, $125
Skechers is making waves with its new HyperBurst highly responsive ultralight foam midsoles. The brand first released this tech in the GoRun Razor 3 in November, but it will expand to several shoes in the Skechers spring 2019 line.
One of the most prominent is the Go Run 7 Hyper, a well-cushioned performance training shoe that is light and fast enough to double as a race-day shoe. Built on a “rockered” profile design and a 4mm heel-toe offset that promotes efficient running, the Go Run 7 Hyper (7.8 ounces, men’s size 9) has a breathable compression-knit upper and a molded heel counter that combines for a snug, sock-like fit.
HOKA ONE ONE Rincon, $115
I really love HOKA’s simple as that, A maximally cushioned racing shoe? You bet! A new lightweight, maximally cushioned shoe, the Rincon tips the scales at a mere 7.6 ounces (men’s size 9) despite having copious amounts of energetic, full-compression EVA midsole foam underfoot.
It sports a minimally designed upper with an asymmetrical design aimed at conforming to an athletic fit geared for fast, high-cadence running. It has a 5mm heel-toe offset and stack heights (29 mm/24 mm for men) similar to those of the Clifton 6, but it’s 1.5 ounces lighter.
Reebok FloatRide Run 2.0, $150
These are a trully great shoe and making some serious headway in the market and on the road. This is one of the shoes that signalled Reebok’s return to running back from cross fit which the brand has focused on in previous years and another shoe that has nailed the looks department.
The TPU structural cage beautifully wraps the foot is now softer and less harsh than previous model, as are the new synthetic knit upper and heel collar.
This shoes is getting a lot of love from Letsrun forum members and rightly so, I even have a pair and they are great for track warming up and really is one of the best running shoes
