Nigeria athletics promises masters support ahead of Toronto 2020

Members of Nigeria Athletics Masters (NAM) paid a visit to the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) at the Presidential villa in Abuja recently to solicit support ahead the 2020 World Masters Athletics Championship (WMA) holding in Toronto, Canada.

The Nigeria Athletics Masters, under the leadership of Dr. (Mrs.) Gloria Obajimi was represented by Chief Mrs. Falilat Ogunkoya (MON), during the visit to Abuja.

Chief Ogunkoya, a former Olympian, thanked the vice president for giving NAM the opportunity to discuses the challenges facing the Masters Athletes after serving their fatherland.

On behalf of Nigeria Athletics Masters, Ogunkoya solicited support from the federal government to give them maximum support ahead of the forthcoming World Athletics Masters Championship in Toronto.

On his part, the Secretary General of the Nigeria Athletics Masters, Mr. Uruemu Adu also appreciated the gesture given to the NAM by the vice president, just as he urged the Ministry of Youths and Sport to create a body that will look into the plights of Nigeria Athletics Masters and its activities.

Also, the Assistant General Secretary of Nigeria Athletics Masters, Dr. Safiyat Yahaya-Kongoila spoke on the difficulties facing the athlete whenever they have competitions outside Nigeria.

These include procurement of visa, accommodation and financial support.In his response, the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo appreciated the effort and contributions, which NAM is making towards uplifting Nigeria. He assured them of support from the present administration, especially in the area of health policy for their members.

Osinbajo promised his support towards the forthcoming World Athletics Masters in Canada 2020, just as he directed Chief Mrs. Falilat Ogunkoya and Dr. Safiyat Yahaya -Kongoila to work with the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport on the Health Insurance Policy for the NAM members.
